Tenerife, like most other countries, has a State Education Service with an
excellent number of local school, colleges and 'nurseries (guarderias). In addition there is a wide range of Private, or Fee-Paying Schools and Colleges.
Whilst many people choosing to
stay on the island send their children to a ‘State’ school, many also choose the
‘Private’ option. There is a choice of British, German and Spanish
fee-paying private schools, amongst which are 4 ‘British' ones, the main one of
which in the South is Wingate, which has been established for nearly 25 years
and caters for children aged between 3-18 years old. Wingate has also been
recognised as a centre for the University
of Cambridge
examinations
since 1988 and there are now more than 400 pupils attending. Wingate
School is very proud of the fact that it has been inspected by the UK
Government's Education Inspectorate and been designated an officially
recognised
British school.
